 International Basic Programme (ITP), Minimum Yoga Teacher Standards of International Yoga Federation

International Yoga Federation also maintains the first International Registry of Yoga Organizations to recognize yoga teacher training programs of at least 200 or 500 hours. A yoga organziations whose curriculum satisfies or exceeds our international minimum training standards may apply to register as a "IRYO" (Registered Yoga Organization). Once a school is registered, all graduates of a IRYO are automatically eligible to register with us as IRYTs.

Registered yoga organziations and centres are authorized to use the logo, the flag of IYF ( after their names, and receive certificates of registration).

The International Yoga Federation have this International Basic Programme (ITP), Minimum Yoga Teacher Standards with all continental yoga organization, this programm is the same in Latin American Union of Yoga, European Yoga Alliance, European Federation of Yoga, European Union of Yoga, Asian Pacific Yoga Alliance, Asian Union of Yoga, Yoga Teachers Association of Asutralia, Yoga Alliance International, South American Yoga Federation and African Yoga Federation
International Yoga Federation has worked carefully to construct International Basic Programme (ITP) and MINIMUM standards for yoga teachers. We also recognize that many individual teachers , schools, ashrams and national yoga federations that train teachers exceed these standards. These standards are designed to be broad and inclusive while providing a meaningful assurance of quality to those who depend on the IYF is selecting their yoga teachers

500 Hours Standards
Techniques (total 150 hours with 75 contact hours)
Includes asanas, pranayamas, kriyas, ekagrata, pratihara, dharana, samadhi, samyama, sama, exercices or yoga vyayamas, mantras chanting, and meditation. These hours include both training in the techniques and the practice of them.
Teaching Methodology (total 30 hours with 15 contact hours)
Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting/correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, and the student's process of learning.
Anatomy and Physiology (total 35 hours with 17.5 contact hours)
Includes both physical Anatomy and Physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.) and astral/energy/subtle Anatomy and Physiology
Psychology and Spirituality (total 35 hours with 17.5 contact hours)
Includes both Psychology and Spiritulity (Chitta, Manas, Buddhi, Ahamkara, Alayavjnana, Smrit, Saskaras and Vasanas (Koshas and (chakras, marmas, nadis, etc.) )
Philosophy/Ethics/Lifestyle (total 50 hours with 25 contact hours)
Study of Yoga Scriptures (Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, etc.), ethics for yoga teachers, 'living the life of the Yogi', etc.
Practicum (total 40 hours with 20 contact hours)
Includes student teaching as well as observing and assisting in classes taught by others. Hours may be a combination of supervised and unsupervised
Electives 165 Hours
Contact Hours At Least 350 Hours
Teaching Experience
An additional 100 hours of teaching experience, outside of the 500 hours of training, are required before a teacher can enroll in the Registry of International Yoga Federation
